Are you looking for a teaching opportunity in Understanding Psychological Disorders? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to teach next Spring term 2026.
The is looking to recruit a part-time, fixed-term Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team on the Certificate of Higher Education, Foundation Year and BA Programmes for the module:-
3. 22 hours of teaching, January - March 2026
4. Wednesday 6-8pm, 11 weeks.
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Understanding Psychological Disorders module, which is a Level 4 module offered as part of our Certificate of Higher Education, Foundation Year and BA programmes.
The module offers an introduction to a range of Psychological disorders, exploring the history of mental health and how these are defined and categorised in the DSM and ICD, and exploring a range of causal explanations, including biological, psychological and sociocultural.
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:
5. A degree in Psychology.
6. Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
7. A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.

8. Postgraduate degree/s in a relevant area
9. A teaching qualification.
The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions on the module. Please refer to the person specification for further selection criteria.
