We’re recruiting a Locum Consultant in Stroke Medicine for a 12-month post (maternity leave cover) based in Swindon. You’ll join a friendly, well-established team of 10 senior clinicians within a combined neurology/stroke service, with real scope to help shape and improve stroke care.
The role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Stroke Consultant with a passion for high-quality, evidence-based stroke care and service improvement. You’ll contribute to:
* Hyperacute/acute stroke care, including thrombolysis
* Rapid access TIA clinics
* HASU ward rounds and outpatient stroke clinics
* Teaching, training, and supervision of junior colleagues
* Audit/QI and clinical governance, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests
The service
* 18-bed acute stroke unit (including 4 HASU beds) plus a 15-bed stroke rehabilitation ward
* Approximately 600 acute stroke patients per year
* Strong improvement journey, achieving consistent SSNAP Level B performance after significant service investment
* Active interest in stroke research
Job plan & on-call
* 10 PAs total (indicatively 8.5 DCC / 1.5 SPA)
* Potential to participate in a regional out-of-hours thrombolysis rota (remote)

Essential requirements
* Full GMC registration
* CCT (or equivalent) in a relevant specialty or within 6 months of CCT at interview
* Trained/experienced across all aspects of stroke medicine, with ability to lead MDT care and contribute to education and service development
