JOB SUMMARY:
Carries out product stewardship activities related to hazard communication, including the classification / labelling of products, authoring safety data sheets /labels, carrying out notifications / registrations to national regulatory authorities and ensuring data integrity related to raw materials, intermediates and products.
Responsibilities
1. Author up to date and accurate Safety Data Sheets & Labels across specified NewMarket companies, business units and regions.
2. Derive hazard classifications for substances and mixtures using various classification schemes including but not limited to GHS, OSHA HazCom, CLP & WHMIS methodologies.
3. Carry out trade secrecy registrations to protect proprietary product information.
4. Complete and maintain notifications and registrations to regional national regulatory authorities. (for example, poison center notifications and Canadian HMIRA registrations)
5. Maintain data integrity within the SDS authoring database to ensure work products reflect the most current health, safety, environmental, and regulatory information available.
6. Work as part of the global hazard communication team to monitor changes in global HazCom regulations to insure global and regional compliance.
7. Assist product stewards in responding to internal and external customer inquiries related to product classification and labelling.
8. Support company policies and procedures, Responsible Care© initiatives and the Product Safety Code.
9. Assist E&H colleagues and support activities as necessary in all E&H areas including Product Stewardship, Toxicology, Regulatory Affairs and Environmental.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:
10. Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
11. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
12. Demonstrated understanding of Product Stewardship and E&H functions typically acquired through 3 years relevant experience in an E&H environment.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
13. Demonstrate a good level of knowledge & understanding of at least 2 international HazCom regulations.
14. Understand the basic chemistry, function and applications of additives & formulations of assigned product lines.
15. Proven ability in being a team-player.
16. Ability to work accurately under moderate supervision to achieve deadlines.
17. Demonstrates clear, concise, effective oral and written communication skills.
18. Able to think analytically and focus on details.
19. Knowledge of chemical regulations relevant to role.
20. Demonstrates an understanding of chemistry.
21. Ability to multi-task.
22. Demonstrate effective customer service skills.
