Why This Is a Fantastic Role for Psychology Graduates

This role offers hands-on, real-world experience with children and young people whose behaviours, emotions, and development are shaped by complex psychological factors. As a Psychology graduate, you will be able to:

Apply theory to real-life scenarios

You will work with pupils displaying attachment difficulties, emotional dysregulation, trauma responses, and social communication challenges—allowing you to see psychological principles in action.

Build clinical-style experience valued by postgraduate pathways

This role strengthens applications for:
• Educational Psychology
• Clinical Psychology
• Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS)
• Mental Health Practitioner roles
• Assistant Psychologist roles
• Social Work & Family Intervention
• Youth Justice and behavioural support pathways

The experience you gain—especially in behaviour analysis, emotional regulation, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice—is highly relevant and often required for these routes.

Develop essential therapeutic and interpersonal skills

You will refine skills such as:
• De-escalation and emotional regulation
• Active listening and empathy
• Behavioural observation and reporting
• Building rapport with vulnerable or anxious individuals
• Understanding triggers and behaviour patterns

These competencies are fundamental in any psychology-related career.

Gain insight into neurodiversity and mental health

Working with pupils with Autism, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, attachment disorders, and SEMH needs offers first-hand understanding of how these conditions influence learning, behaviour, and wellbeing.
