EDF, following the success of Hinkley Point C, is expanding its Sizewell C (SZC) team and is seeking top talent to join the project in Suffolk. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nuclear new build that will deliver reliable, low-carbon electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, supporting the UK's Net Zero ambitions. As part of the Engineering & Technical function within the Civil Works Programme, the Geotechnical Engineer will play a pivotal role in managing geotechnical risks, setting and endorsing geotechnical requirements, and ensuring compliance across designers and contractors. What You'll Be Doing As a key member of the team, your work will span the full breadth of geotechnical engineering on this mega-project, including: Leading ground investigation campaigns, both offshore and onshore Overseeing site trials and ground stabilisation/improvement Supporting road, rail, and marine infrastructure projects, including jetty foundations Conducting material testing on peat, crag sand, and other soils Managing earthworks, including excavation, transport, blending, and backfill Implementing groundwater control, dewatering, and fluvial flood prevention measures Designing and reviewing major ground structures: sea defence bunds, piles, cut-off walls, tunnel shafts Contributing to tunnelling operations in sand and offshore intake/outfall structures Monitoring ground movement impacts on existing nuclear assets Developing and maintaining a digital ground model and overseeing instrumentation and monitoring programmes You will collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders including design teams (AtkinsRealis), Civil Works Delivery teams, the Civil Works Alliance, Design Authority, Responsible Designer (Edvance-CNEPE-TEGG), and external regulators such as ONR, EA, and Sizewell B teams. Who We're Looking For We're seeking a hands-on, technically capable geotechnical professional who can operate across concept design, detailed design, and construction phases. Essential Skills & Experience: 10 years in Geotechnical Engineering, ideally on multi-disciplinary projects Strong technical knowledge in geology and geotechnics Expertise across ground engineering, including earthworks, drainage, pavements, slopes & retaining structures, foundations, and construction logistics Experience in integrated design and delivery management in complex projects Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels Honours degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent Chartered Engineer (CGeol or MICE) Desirable: Nuclear sector experience, particularly in safety-related structures Previous work on nuclear new build projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C) Higher degree (MSc, MEng, PhD) in Ground Engineering / Geotechnics Why Join EDF at Sizewell C?
