Physiotherapist – Pelvic Health
Band 6 – Fixed Term, 12 months
Exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapist in Pelvic Health at Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties
* Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments, including detailed history, physical examination, outcome measures and risk assessments.
* Manage a complex, diverse clinical caseload independently, prioritise appropriately and modify management as needed.
* Formulate and deliver individualised evidence‑based treatment plans, using advanced clinical reasoning.
* Provide specialist interventions such as:
o Manual therapy
o Exercise rehabilitation
o Self‑management planning
o Falls prevention strategies
o Long‑term condition management
o Respiratory physiotherapy (if part of local PPHS scope)
o Behaviour change and lifestyle advice
* Participate in and lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) work, contributing to integrated care plans and joint reviews.
* Support early identification of deterioration and contribute to acute‑avoidance pathways where applicable.
* Ensure all clinical documentation is completed to HCPC, CSP and Trust standards.
2. Planned & Preventative Health Service (PPHS) Responsibilities
* Deliver physiotherapy that aligns with PPHS principles of:
o Early intervention
o Preventing functional decline
o Supporting independence
o Reducing hospital admissions
o Empowering self‑management
* Provide group‑based and 1:1 rehabilitation programmes where needed (e.g., falls, strength & balance, pre‑habilitation).
* Work collaboratively with other PPHS professionals to streamline referral pathways and enhance patient flow.
* Contribute to health promotion strategies such as physical activity, pain management education and lifestyle modification.
* Participate in outreach programmes including home visits, community clinics and virtual consultations.
* Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and support for Band 5 physiotherapists, students, assistants and other junior staff.
* Assist in the induction and training of new staff members and lead or support in‑service training sessions, case discussions and CPD events.
* Act as a role model for professional behaviour, high clinical standards and compassionate practice.
4. Service Development & Quality Improvement
* Contribute to audit, research, outcome measurement and development of clinical guidelines.
* Identify and implement service improvement initiatives, supporting PPHS efficiency and accessibility.
* Participate in service evaluation, feedback processes and innovation to enhance patient experience.
* Assist with data collection, performance reporting and maintaining quality standards required by the Trust.
Qualifications
* Degree in Physiotherapy.
* HCPC registration.
* Clinical Educators Certificate.
Experience
* Advanced clinical knowledge relevant to the current environment and evidence‑based practice in the relevant health setting.
* Awareness of own strengths and limitations.
* Knowledge of relevant national policies, guidance and assessment tools.
* Experience line‐managing a team, including setting objectives, conducting appraisals and effective delegation and coordination.
* Evidence of effective working within an MDT.
* Experience of service development.
* Demonstrated experience of problem‑solving approaches.
* Audit and research in a clinical area.
Skills
* Demonstrates ability to motivate team performance to achieve objectives.
* Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.
* Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings.
* Accurate record keeping, report writing and IT skills including presentation skills.
* Flexible approach to work with good time management.
Other
* Ability to travel to various hospital locations.
