Job Summary
CNN's Senior Editor, Programming, will report to the Director of Programming and assist in leading and managing the team that curates and organizes CNN's extraordinary content—from text and videos to interactives—on our industry‑leading digital platforms. The successful candidate will bring creativity, energy and substance to programming our core surfaces, have a comprehensive understanding of digital programming and storytelling, set daily priorities, ensure successful workflows, analyze data to inform both short‑ and long‑term strategies, respond swiftly to breaking news, craft compelling deliveries and identify engaging content to influence its production. This highly collaborative role works across global news teams, distribution editors and product partners to ensure CNN’s journalism is presented with clarity, creativity and impact.
Responsibilities
* Lead a team of editors and associate editors, providing guidance, feedback and editorial oversight.
* Oversee editorial decisions for CNN’s core digital platforms, curating and organizing content across mobile, desktop and app homepages to inform, engage, and entertain global audiences.
* Showcase key video moments and elevate CNN’s journalism through strategic content packaging and visual storytelling.
* Collaborate with the Director of Programming to shape strategies that balance editorial excellence, audience needs, and business goals.
* Partner with editorial stakeholders and distribution editors across CNN to align programming with newsroom priorities and rollout plans.
* Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness, timeliness, and editorial integrity across all surfaces and alerts.
* Respond swiftly to breaking news, ensuring clear, compelling, and audience‑relevant delivery.
* Act as a super‑user of CNN’s CMS and publishing tools, ensuring efficient workflows and high‑quality output.
* Consistently evaluate team and cross‑functional workflows, in partnership with the Directors of Programming, to support optimal execution of programming strategies.
* Collaborate with design, development, and product teams to implement new features and tools that enhance user experience and editorial capabilities.
* Use real‑time and long‑term audience data to guide story placement, optimize engagement, and inform short‑ and long‑term strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
* Excellent writing, editing, and headline‑crafting skills.
* Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
* Ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining editorial standards.
* Strong collaborative mindset and communication skills.
* Experience with analytics, A/B testing, and content optimization.
* Strategic thinking and creative problem‑solving abilities.
* Willingness to work flexible hours as news demands.
* Deep understanding of digital content across multiple formats (text, video, visuals, interactives, podcasts, etc.).
* Advanced experience with content management and digital publishing tools.
* Proven experience in digital news.
Additional Information
Onsite Working – This role is advertised as Onsite, meaning all working hours and days (regardless of shift pattern) will be carried out at the place of work. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your line manager reserves the right to change this working agreement, where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
