Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

The Opportunity

Southampton is a city of maritime excellence and home to a world-leading research university, making it a hub for mathematical application in engineering and oceanography. We are seeking a dedicated and inspirational Maths Teacher to join a high-achieving Roman Catholic Faith Academy. In this role, you will help students master the universal language of mathematics within a community that values the harmony between faith and reason, preparing them to be ethical and logical thinkers in a complex world.

-----------------------------------

The Department & Ethos

* You will join a mathematics faculty that is central to the school’s mission of "seeking truth through study," where the curriculum emphasizes the beauty and order of the mathematical universe.

* The department follows a mastery-based approach, ensuring students build deep conceptual understanding before moving on to complex abstract reasoning.

* The academy fosters a strong sense of community, where pastoral care is integrated into every interaction and students are encouraged to reach their full potential as stewards of their talents.

* While the school is a faith academy, we welcome applications from Maths Teachers of all faiths or none who are supportive of the school’s Catholic character and values.

-----------------------------------

Core Responsibilities

1. Mathematical Delivery: Teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), fostering a classroom environment where students develop resilience in problem-solving and logical deduction.

2. Faith Integration: Supporting the academy’s ethos by participating in the liturgical life of the school and encouraging students to reflect on how mathematical principles reflect the order of creation.

3. Curriculum Mastery: Delivering lessons that cover the full breadth of the curriculum, from geometry and trigonometry to algebraic manipulation and statistical analysis.

4. Diagnostic Assessment: Using data-driven insights to identify student misconceptions in numerical reasoning and providing targeted feedback that helps every learner excel.

5. Enrichment Leadership: Coordinating extracurricular activities, such as the UKMT Maths Challenge or coding clubs, to stretch the most able mathematicians and foster a love for the subject.

-----------------------------------

The Successful Candidate We are looking for a practitioner who combines academic excellence with a commitment to the holistic development of young people. Requirements include:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline.

* Instructional Clarity: The ability to explain complex theorems and abstract concepts in a way that is accessible, engaging, and rigorous.

* Respect for Ethos: A willingness to support and contribute to the Catholic life and values of the school.

* Analytical Rigor: A commitment to maintaining high standards of numeracy and ensuring that mathematical literacy is promoted across all year groups.

-----------------------------------

Why Join Us?

* A school environment defined by mutual respect, where behaviour is exemplary and the "whole person" is nurtured.

* Access to specialized professional development within a network of regional faith schools and national mathematics hubs.

* The opportunity to work in Southampton—a vibrant port city offering a high quality of life, rich history, and easy access to the New Forest and the South Coast.

* A supportive professional environment where the Maths department is celebrated for its role in fostering academic rigor and logical reflection.
