Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist. The appointee will work with Consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive service for residents across West Sussex. The Rheumatology department is part of the MSK Directorate, including Trauma and Orthopaedics and Pain Management. The post will be based predominantly at Worthing Hospital, with some sessions at other Trust locations. This post is available on a 10 programmed activities (PAs) basis. The position offers an excellent opportunity for professional development and contribution to service improvement.
Main duties of the job
1. Outpatient clinics: assessment of new patients, review of follow-up patients, discussions with specialists and CNS, joint injections, and procedures.
2. Ward referrals and DCC duties: inpatient reviews, weekly radiology MDT participation.
3. Administrative duties: dictation and signing of outpatient letters, reports, referrals, prescriptions, and medical reports.
4. Telephone and email advice: providing management advice to GPs and other health professionals.
5. Clinical audit: proposing, collecting data, presenting, and participating in audits.
6. Supervision and governance: supervising CNSs and assistants, involvement in clinical governance, teaching medical students, and potential research activities.

Person Specification
Essential qualifications and experience include a basic medical degree, postgraduate or specialist qualification, GMC registration or eligibility, and CCT in Rheumatology (or equivalent for overseas trained doctors).
Desirable qualifications include a higher degree, research experience, publications, and prizes.
Key skills involve understanding clinical risk management, excellent communication, teamwork, and teaching commitment. Desirable skills include interests in pediatric rheumatology, vasculitis, and research activities.
