We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer with strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and OpenStack to support, maintain, and enhance our infrastructure platforms. This is a contract role, available for an immediate start, offering a hybrid working arrangement. The ideal candidate will thrive in complex environments, enjoy solving technical challenges, and contribute to the stability and evolution of our cloud and on‑premise systems.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Administration
• Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems across production and development environments.
• Manage system performance, security hardening, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Troubleshoot OS‑level issues and ensure high availability of critical services.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for system provisioning, configuration, and monitoring.
OpenStack Cloud Engineering
• Deploy, configure, and manage OpenStack environments, including compute, storage, and networking components.
• Monitor and optimise OpenStack clusters for stability, scalability, and performance.
• Integrate OpenStack with existing infrastructure, identity management, and automation tools.
• Troubleshoot cloud platform issues and support users of the OpenStack environment.
Infrastructure & Operations
• Support virtualisation technologies (KVM, VMware) and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.
• Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and provide escalation support for critical incidents.
Collaboration & Documentation
• Work closely with DevOps, Networking, Security, and Application teams to deliver stable and scalable solutions.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural diagrams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and infrastructure modernisation projects.
Skills & Qualifications
• Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration and troubleshooting.
• Hands‑on experience deploying and managing OpenStack environments.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, routing, firewalls).
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of virtualisation (KVM, VMware) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
• Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE).
• Experience with Ceph, Swift, or other OpenStack storage technologies.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience in large‑scale enterprise or high‑availability environments.
• Knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks.
