Base Location: one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen. Salary: Up to circa £65,000 + car/allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing. The role
As part of the SSEN Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme of works, we are looking for an Overhead Lines Project Engineer to support its delivery. This role sits within SSEN Transmission\'s Project Engineering team with a primary focus on AC Overhead Lines systems. Experience with transmission networks is desirable. Candidates with a project engineering background, ideally with experience in 132kV and above voltage overhead line engineering, from contractor, consultancy, or client organisations within the energy industry, are encouraged to apply. Candidates from other industries will also be considered if they have transferable skills and are willing to learn within the Transmission Industry.
You will
* Provide overhead line engineering support for major 400kV, 275kV and 132kV projects across the full project life cycle, working as part of a multidisciplinary project engineering team.
* Take on a Lead Project Engineering role on some projects, leading on engineering governance, co-ordination of all engineering disciplines, and supporting others in managing engineering risks and opportunities for project excellence.
* Act as the point of contact for overhead line engineering and represent engineering at key strategy, commercial, programme and site meetings.
* Promote and manage safety within assigned projects through CDM procedures and practices, ensuring project engineering compliance with company, HSE and industry regulations.
* Work closely with Engineering Managers and Project Managers to ensure that engineering and quality risks are identified and mitigated.
You have
* Strong technical skills in overhead line development, design, and specification—or demonstrable transferable experience.
* Familiarity with overhead line design software (e.g. PLS-CADD) is advantageous but not essential.
* A technical degree or HND with relevant field experience.
* A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to explore design options and apply evidence-based decision-making.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and deliver information effectively across levels.
