The successful candidate will play a role in providing a comprehensive range of clinical investigations in GI Physiology including High Resolution Manometry, pH/Impedance monitoring and Endoanal ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal conditions to patients from within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and the wider region, while also assisting in the development of the service to meet the need of service users. In addition to this there will be cross‑specialism working in undertaking Urodynamic investigations – standard Cystometrogram (CMG Pressure/Flow Studies) and video Cystometrogram (VCMG).
Main duties of the job
The Department of Gastrointestinal Physiology is a busy physiologist‑led centre providing an extensive range of clinical investigations of both upper and lower gastrointestinal function. The department serves the needs of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and additionally provides a tertiary service to the surrounding communities of Calderdale, North and West Yorkshire. The team also delivers an adult urodynamic service including video urodynamics to the department of Urology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

Job responsibilities
* Undertake investigation of the gastrointestinal tract (GI) using specialised diagnostic equipment, including analysis and clinical reporting on patients with a range of both upper and lower GI conditions to assist the consultant in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders.
* Perform diagnostic investigations using specialised urodynamic measuring equipment on patients with genito‑urinary conditions to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of urological disorders.
* Participate in developing service improvement and the quality‑of‑care provision within GI Physiology and Urodynamics.
* Act as training co‑ordinator/assessor for trainees undertaking the National School of Healthcare Science Scientist Training programme and provide training and clinical supervision to junior medical staff, assistant grades and other healthcare professionals as deemed necessary.

Person Specification

Qualifications
* Relevant First Degree preferably in Clinical Physiology, Biosciences or equivalent level of knowledge and expertise.
* Masters Degree in Healthcare Science (GI physiology).
* Certificate of Attainment/Equivalence from National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS) – Healthcare Scientist Training Programme in GI Physiology Specialism – or near completion of training programme.
* Member of the Association of Gastrointestinal Physiologists (AGIP) as an Accredited Independent Healthcare Professional in GI Physiology or planning to apply within the next 6 months.
* Certified Level of Urodynamics of the Bristol Urological Institute, or other accredited by the International Continence Society (or obtained within 12 months).
* NVQ Catheterisation competency (or achieved within 6 months).
Experience
* Achieve (or about to achieve) all competencies/modules across the GI physiology specialism of the Scientist training programme (STP) from an approved training centre.
* Achieve (or about to achieve) all competencies within the Urodynamics rotation of the scientist training programme (STP).
