Job Overview
To provide day-to-day logistical management of all surgical instruments used within the Trust, contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the Operating Theatres and ensuring high-quality patient care by making all surgical instruments available in a timely manner.
The post holder will also order new instruments, oversee repairs and replacements, and maintain high standards of quality and safety. Excellent communication skills are essential.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Daily communication with the Sterile Services Decontamination team to identify priority instruments.
2. Coordinate the transfer of instruments between hospital theatres and other sites as needed.
3. Oversee repair, replacement, and handling of defective instruments.
4. Manage loaned instruments, ensuring proper recording and timely return.
5. Maintain records of repairs, activities, and instrument usage.
6. Work flexibly across all sites, including RLH, Aintree, and Broadgreen.
7. Follow a weekly alternating shift pattern: one week 07:00-17:00, next week 10:00-18:00.

Person Specification
Qualifications: Recognised healthcare science qualification (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent), experience with manual handling, PPE, COSHH, and risk assessments.
Experience: Experience in a theatre, hospital procurement, or SSD environment; knowledge of instruments and clinical demands; excellent communication and leadership skills; experience with quality audits and reporting.
Knowledge
* Understanding of Permit to Work systems and decontamination processes.
* Knowledge of regulations related to medical devices, CJD, and storage standards.
* Ability to review technical data from manufacturers.
Skills
* Planning and objective setting for instrument utilization.
