Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

The closing date is 13 April 2026

We are delighted to invite applications for a substantive Consultant post at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Haywards Heath, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking, supportive team and to play a key role in the ongoing development of high-quality patient care within a dynamic clinical environment.

The successful applicant will join a committed multidisciplinary team and will have access to a wide range of clinical resources, academic links, and opportunities for professional development.

This is a full-time post, though applications for part-time or job-share arrangements are welcome.

Main duties of the job

This post offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to service innovation, education, and multidisciplinary working within a well-resourced and collaborative NHS Trust.

The job plan will comprise 10 programmed activities (PAs), including 8 direct clinical care (DCC) PAs, 1 PA of Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) for CPD and revalidation, and 1 SPA (to be agreed) which may include subspecialty leadership, service development, governance, or other agreed responsibilities.

We are looking for a colleague with an interest in one or more of the following sub‑specialities: interstitial lung disease, asthma and sleep. If a candidate has limited experience in a sub‑specialty area and is keen to develop their expertise and take on a role in this area, we will support them with a period of training and mentorship, tailored to their needs.

The successful applicant will also provide clinical supervision for doctors in training and contribute to the teaching of medical students from Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

Applicants must be within six months of their CCT at the time of interview.

Interviews are planned to take place in May.

In addition, consultants provide specialist respiratory advice and inpatient consultations as required.

Outpatient work: two outpatient clinics per week, comprising one general and one specialist respiratory clinic.
