Overview
The Older Adults Mental Health Service Consultant role provides an opportunity to live and work in West Wales as part of a caring and committed team delivering high quality services to our later life population. As an Old Age Consultant Psychiatrist, you will work across the pathway of primary, community and specialist secondary care, ensuring continuity for patients.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess patients at the initial referral stage – whether in the patient’s home, care home, or clinic.
* Formulate risk and treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
* Provide ongoing management of episodes of later life mental ill‑health.
* Where appropriate, admit and clinically lead patients on the older adults mental health ward.
* Work closely with General Adult services and maintain continuity when patients are admitted to General Hospital under the team’s care.
Qualifications & Experience
* Knowledge and experience of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
* Familiarity with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure; if unfamiliar, you will be expected to become competent in its application.
* Section 12 MHA and Approved Clinician status are required.
* Experience in assessing and managing functional and organic disorders in later life.
