Payroll Manager
West Sussex Council is offering an initial temporary contract of 3–6 months, with potential extension to a permanent position for the right candidate at a negotiable rate dependent on experience. The position is hybrid – 1 day office based.
Responsibilities
* The role is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of payroll and HR administration services for WSCC employees, managers, schools, and external partners.
* Lead a team of approximately 30 staff to deliver efficient and accurate payroll transactions across all areas of payroll and HR administration.
* Ensure all transactions are processed efficiently and that the team is appropriately skilled and supported to address complex pay, pension and HR queries from WSCC managers, employees, schools and external customers.
* Develop, design and implement compliant, efficient, and effective services and systems; oversee implementation activities to improve customer experience.
* Monitor performance, identify opportunities for continuous improvement in service delivery and manage day‑to‑day operations, setting targets, planning work and acting as a professional specialist in this field.
