Embryologist

The post holder is required to carry out all aspects of Clinical andrology and embryology diligently and to a high standard within the assisted conception unit.
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a clinical scientist specialising in embryology is a prerequisite for this position. Post-graduate experience is required to handle complex, sensitive, and contentious information during their role in the fertility service.
The post holder will possess postgraduate Masters level knowledge in reproductive biology.
Proficiency in working independently within the fertility laboratories under the supervision of the Consultant Embryologist is expected. The embryologist will act professionally and responsibly towards patients, colleagues, and others encountered during work.
The role involves seeing both NHS and fee-paying private patients.
Educational responsibilities include supervising and mentoring junior staff.
The position is based on a 37.5-hour week over 5 days, with participation in weekend work and on-call duties (1:4).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will independently perform practical tasks essential for the operation of the assisted conception laboratory, including:
* Maintaining a sterile and tidy laboratory environment, including daily/weekly cleaning and maintenance
* Adhering to hygiene and aseptic techniques at all times
* Performing annual audits on cryopreserved semen and embryos and reporting results to the Fertility Services Manager/Consultant Clinical Scientist
* Managing laboratory stock, ensuring supplies are adequate for upcoming procedures
* Ordering and preparing culture media and solutions
* Preparing embryo and sperm culture dishes/tubes daily for IVF/ICSI procedures
* Monitoring laboratory equipment regularly and ensuring proper servicing
Contributing to the development and implementation of new protocols and systems within the department.

* State-registered clinical scientist (Embryology)

* Relevant MSc or Doctorate
* HFEA licensed ICSI practitioner
* Postgraduate diploma in clinical andrology
* ESHRE accredited clinical embryologist
* DipRCPath in embryology
* Extensive postgraduate experience in UK practice
