The Newtownabbey Shed is a registered charity supporting men and women, in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Council area, who struggle with mental health issues relating to loneliness and lack of purpose. We achieve this by providing a safe space in which they can interact as well as offering many activities in which they may participate should they so wish. These include woodworking, 3D printing, woodworking, crafts, sewing and pyrography. Outings, seminars and visits to places of interest are also arranged. The membership has now reached 100, both men and women and this requires an increasing commitment of both time and experience to manage effectively. To this end we have created the post of Part Time Project Support Officer working up to 15 hours a week at £15 per hour. The precise number of hours and the days on which these are worked are subject to discussion as the needs of the Shed evolve. This is a fixed term post the funding for which is supported by the National Lottery/other funds which will be reviewed at the end of June 2026. This is an exciting opportunity as the role has great flexibility for the right person to shape effectively and in doing so will assist people overcome their issues and make a significant contribution to individuals and the community as a whole.
