We need a Marine Water Quality Officer to help make 2050 waters cleaner and thriving. The role is based within Operations Catchment Services and involves analysing marine water quality, modelling, and supporting evidence‑based decisions. Two positions are available – one permanent and one fixed‑term for 6 months.
Key responsibilities
* Provide timely answers to technical questions and support technical specialists
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection
* Summarise and communicate technical work and escalated challenges where needed
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners
* Use your initiative to contribute to the work of the team and wider organisation
Qualifications & experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline – knowledge of water quality and marine environment desirable
* Experience in data analysis; familiarity with modelling software is preferred
* Proficiency in Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages such as Mike or Cormix is an advantage
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings
* Aim or currently working towards professional membership
Working arrangement
The role is full‑time (national) and can be undertaken from any location in England. Flexible working, including hybrid arrangements, is supported. Some travel and overnights may be required.
