Become a central figure for the editorial success of EMJ, AMJ, and EMJ Learning. You'll be the go-to person for medical insights, and be responsible for ensuring and upholding the gold-standard quality of our content across all platforms, ranging from journals to podcasts. Your tactical vision will drive audience growth and engagement, as you nurture strong relationships with key opinion leaders and Editorial Boards, and oversee a peer review process that sets the industry standard.

* Experience and qualifications: You bring 8+ years of experience in medical or healthcare publishing, and hold a medical science–related degree (a Master’s or PhD is preferred).
* Leadership and mentorship: You have experience coaching and developing an editorial team of eight or more, working with them to create exceptional content while continually improving processes and standards.
* Quality and ethics: A meticulous professional with a commitment to quality and ethics; you monitor journal standards and ensure compliance with regulations like ABPI.
* Strategic and innovative thinking: You are forward-thinking, up to date with the latest medical innovations, and eager to develop and execute new content strategies that support brand growth and reader engagement.
* Digital mindset and SEO: You understand the importance of a strong digital presence and are exceptional at leading SEO best practices to expand our audience and impact.
* Collaborative leadership: You are a confident communicator who can share insights, learnings, and challenges with a management team, contributing to the company’s future direction.

What you’ll do

* Lead and Mentor the Editorial Team: Work with and mentor the editorial team to deliver exceptional content, continually developing and improving processes to ensure all staff meet required standards.
* Ensure Gold-Standard Quality & Compliance: Monitor journal standards and implement quality-control procedures; ensure the team is trained and abides by ethical publishing standards and ABPI compliance.
* Strategise and Innovate Content: Stay informed about new medical innovations to develop and execute content strategies suitable for our readership and brand.
* Drive Brand Expansion: Play a key role in helping the company launch and establish additional journals, including new publications in the US.
* Elevate Digital Presence: Lead on SEO for all published articles to maximize reach and engagement.
* Contribute to Company Management: Be part of the management team, sharing insights, learnings, and challenges to help shape our future direction.

Key Information

* Working pattern: Up to 2 days flexibility to work from home (FT in office during probation)
* Reporting to: Editorial Director
* Location: London/Moorgate office

We offer a hybrid work environment, balancing office and remote work. During the initial three-month probation, this period will be fully office-based, five days a week. Following this, we anticipate a regular office presence of at least three days a week.
