What's involved with this role: Mechanical Engineer - Initial 6 month contract You’ll play a vital role supporting the maintenance and refurbishment of a wide range of Ground Support Equipment — from refuelling units to maintenance vehicles and hydraulic systems. We’re looking for someone with strong mechanical expertise, proven experience in inspection and repair. We are looking for candidates with a background in automotive, RAF engineering, marine engines, or heavy machinery, hold (or can work toward) EngTech registration, and are confident using engineering software and tools. Key accountabilities: Conduct survey, inspection, repair, and refurbishment of Ground Support Equipment Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults across a variety of industrial equipment. Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on maintenance and engineering practices. Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and performance requirements. Support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives within the workshop. Use engineering software and documentation systems to record and track maintenance activities. Key criteria: Demonstrable experience in mechanical survey, inspection, repair, and maintenance. Strong background in mechanical systems — e.g., vehicles, engines (petrol/diesel/marine), or hydraulics. Computer literate with the ability to use engineering documentation and reporting systems. Holds, or is eligible for, professional registration at EngTech level (in accordance with UK-SPEC). Holds a Level 4 qualification or advanced/higher apprenticeship or a Level 3 qualification with a recognised engineering apprenticeship and relevant experience. Proven ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to a safety-focused, high-quality engineering environment. Experience within defence, automotive, aviation support, or heavy engineering sectors (e.g. RAF trade group 5, Babcock, or similar) is desirable.
