Job overview

This is an exciting and challenging role which covers adult and paediatric clinical, management and leadership requirements for IQIPS accreditation.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent team working and leadership qualities as well as a high level of clinical and communication skills. You will need to be able to develop good working relationships at all levels and liaise effectively with a wide range of clinicians and managers as well as patients and families.

Whilst working with the Trust you will receive considerable support and opportunities to develop your clinical, management and leadership skills.


Main duties of the job

Planning and delivering the necessary requirements for IQIPS accreditation and implementing the necessary continuous improvement whilst directly supporting the Head of Audiology in the day-to-day delivery of the service.

Manage own areas of responsibility on a day to day basis. Make senior level decisions, provide leadership and negotiate at a senior level on a range of subjects relating to the service.

With the support of the Head of Audiology, resolve service wide issues relating to staff performance, achievement of targets and capacity.

Work closely with colleagues in Outpatients and wards to ensure delivery of activity and waiting time targets.

Identify and address service pressures, using own judgement to respond and deal with a range of routine and urgent situations and developments. This will require the planning, formulation, monitoring and review of action plans, policies and strategies.

Person specification


Education

* MSc Audiology or equivalent M level qualification with Clinical training equivalent to CAC, STP or BAA HTTS.
* Professional Registration with HCPC/RCCP or AHCS.
* IQIPS Assessor Training.


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to include ability to communicate with the hearing impaired and carers in an emotional state, and deal with staff problems.
* Ability to cope with rare exposure to distressing and emotional circumstances within clinical and staff setting.
* Excellent written communications skills.
* Ability to cope with decision making under pressure.
* Good leadership skills including motivation, delegation and change management experience.
* Friendly, courteous and approachable.
* A self -motivated team player.
* Mature, confident, diplomatic.
* Flexible and positive approach to change as dictated by service need.
* Ability to make judgements involving complex facts which require analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of data and options
* Ability to maintain prolonged concentration in both clinical and managerial roles
* Good level of IT skills to include word processing, use of spreadsheets and databases
* Ability to cope with clinical decision making under pressure


Experience

* Minimum of 6 years post qualification
* Minimum of 3 years senior clinical experience with management responsibilities
* Member of a professional body
* Taking an active role in a professional body, committee or organisation
* Good knowledge of a wide range of hearing aids
* Experience of Auditbase or similar system
* Experience of the service responsibilities for paediatric services
* Experience of leading or managing IQIPS accreditation
* Minimum of 4 years paediatric audiology clinical experience
* Minimum of 2 years adult clinical experience
* Good awareness of national issues and development areas of Audiology including outside of their specialism area
* Significant experience of clinical supervision and line management of staff
