Role Title: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Bracknell Forest Borough, Berkshire Pay Rate: £85–£115 per day, depending on experience Contract Type: Full-time, long-term position with the possibility of permanent employment Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, term time only Start Date: Immediate start available or next academic term Introduction A friendly and inclusive primary school within Bracknell Forest Borough is seeking a dedicated and motivated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join its supportive and experienced SEN team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop independence within a structured school environment. The school is looking for an individual who understands that working with children with special educational needs requires patience, consistency, and a genuine desire to support each child as an individual. Pupils and SEN Profiles In this role, you will work with pupils who present with a range of special educational needs, including: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Speech, language, and communication difficulties Sensory processing challenges Learning delays and developmental differences Support may be delivered on a one-to-one basis or through small group interventions, depending on individual needs. Some pupils may require consistent adult support throughout the school day, while others may need targeted assistance during specific lessons or activities. Key Responsibilities As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include: Providing tailored and consistent support to pupils with SEN Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and learning activities Working closely with class teachers to adapt resources and approaches Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual support plans Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management Encouraging positive communication and social interaction Assisting pupils during transitions between lessons and activities Supporting pupils during break times and lunchtime when required Monitoring progress and recording observations Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals Supporting personal care needs where necessary, with dignity and respect Promoting independence while maintaining appropriate support Helping to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment The Ideal Candidate The school is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant who is: Patient, compassionate, and empathetic Emotionally resilient and able to manage challenging behaviour Passionate about inclusive education and SEN support Confident working with pupils who require additional emotional support Flexible and adaptable to changing needs A strong communicator and team player Previous experience in an SEN or educational setting is desirable but not essential. Candidates from backgrounds such as care work, youth work, mental health support, or behaviour support are encouraged to apply if they demonstrate the right attitude and commitment. Skills and Attributes Essential skills and attributes include: A basic understanding of SEN and inclusive practice Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure Strong observation and reporting skills Confidence following behaviour support plans Willingness to engage in training and professional development A proactive and positive approach to challenges Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare Formal SEN qualifications are not required, as training and support will be provided.
