Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician (Integrated Apprenticeship)

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individuals to join the pharmacy workforce at University Hospital of North Midlands.
This is a training post to acquire the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
The post is a 2‑year, fixed‑term contract for a Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship, commencing in February 2026, subject to satisfactory completion of pre‑employment checks in line with GPhC, NHS and Apprenticeship requirements.
Main Duties of the Job
* Maintain professional behaviour within all healthcare settings and adhere to GPhC standards.
* Participate in, and ultimately complete, a vigorous training and competency programme to achieve the qualification.
* Demonstrate excellent work‑life‑study balance and be highly self‑motivated.
* Contribute to service delivery on a flexible working basis, including weekends, late duties and bank holidays.
* Work in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Undertake dispensing of prescriptions for inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication.
* Dispense ward‑stock controlled drugs (CDs) in accordance with legal and departmental procedures.
* Assist with pharmacy reception duties; respond to telephone calls and visitors professionally.
* Input prescriptions onto the electronic tracker system.
* Process and assemble orders within the pharmacy stores department, undertaking stock management, auditing and date checking.
* Perform final accuracy checks on prescribed items against valid prescriptions following legal and departmental SOPs.
* Work with the clinical ward environment, completing drug histories, medicines reconciliation and assessment of patients’ own drugs (PODs).

Job Responsibilities / Structure of the Course
The 2‑year training position will involve four days a week at Royal Stoke/County Hospitals, gaining necessary vocational experience to complete the compulsory competencies for the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. One day a week will be spent at Stoke College to cover the knowledge elements of the diploma.
Full educational support is provided, but candidates must be able to quickly learn new IT systems and technology to provide safe and effective care.

Qualifications
* Maths 4/C, English and Science (at 4/C or above) and a minimum of three additional subjects at grade 4/C, or equivalent.
Specific Skills
* Articulate with strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Good organisational skills.
* Understanding of GPhC standards for Pharmacy professionals.
* Capability to deal confidently and directly with all members of healthcare teams and the public.
* Experience using computer systems and applications.
* Previous pharmacy experience.
Personal Qualities
* Desire and ability to undertake further education.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
* Willingness to participate in weekend/bank holiday work.
Experience
* Previous experience of working towards deadlines.
* Previous experience working with the public.
