This is a brand-new opportunity for a consultant Psychiatrist based in Roseanne House, Welwyn Garden City. The post involves working as a Consultant Psychiatrist and providing diagnostic assessments and treatment to patients with severe, complex and high-risk psychiatric conditions. The Adult Community Mental Health Service (ACMHS) team provides care to the residents of Welwyn Garden City and the surrounding areas and offers support to GPs through GP plus services.
Main Duties
To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to Specialty Doctors and junior medical staff.
To ensure that junior medical staff work within the New Deal parameters and are Working Time Directive compliant.
To undertake administrative duties associated with patient care.
To record clinical activity accurately and submit promptly to the Information Department.
Responsibilities
 * Participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, if appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
 * Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
 * Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
 * Participate annually in a job plan review with the line manager to ensure post development and modernisation.
 * Maintain professional registration with the GMC, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and abide by professional codes of conduct.
 * Work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services and share medical contribution to management.
 * Comply with Trust policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and take an active role in financial management of the service.
 * Provide psychiatric expertise to the multidisciplinary team.
 * Undertake outpatient clinics, home visits and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.
 * Liaise effectively with primary care and mainstream mental health services, providing advice to Primary Care Nurses and Additional Role Reimbursement Workers dedicated to the Primary Care Network.
Qualifications
 * Essential: MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
 * Essential: MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
 * Desirable: Higher degree or qualification in medical education, clinical research or management.
 * Desirable: Relevant higher degree such as MD, PhD or MSc.
Eligibility
 * Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
 * Sec 12 approved.
 * CCT in Psychiatry; or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; or within six months of achieving CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
 * In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
 * Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in General Adult psychiatry.
 * Experience of close collaborative working with social care and other agencies.
 * Experience of working with service users who have complex needs within General Adult psychiatry.
 * Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 * Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.
 * Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
 * Makes decisions based on evidence and experience, including contribution of others.
 * Wide range of specialist and subspecialist experience relevant to this post within NHS or comparable service.
 * Excellent level of medical knowledge pertaining to the roles and responsibilities of the post.
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
 * Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
 * Participated in continuous professional development.
 * Participated in research or service evaluation.
 * Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
 * Has actively participated in clinical audit.

 * Holds a full valid driving licence and access to a car.
