Job overview

We are looking for an experienced phlebotomist to fill a part-time (17.5 hours per week) permanent position and join our friendly team. We are a dynamic department and would like to hear from suitable qualified people. You will have had recent phlebotomy experience with minimum of 1year adult and 6 months paediatrics phlebotomy experience and are expected to complete our local competency assessments.
The successful candidate will have a flexible approach to duties.
An essential requirement of the post is an ability to deal with patients in a confidential, professional, and sensitive manner. To participate in the provision of a high-quality phlebotomy service to paediatric and adult patients in all locations as required inc. Mental Health Hospital.

To manage and prioritise workload in various clinical areas. To be involved in the training of other staff where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post holder is to collect blood samples from patients in all wards and clinics as required, including isolation, paediatric and outlying units as requested by an authorised officer, by means of venepuncture, skin puncture or other authorised methods, using the method most appropriate to the individual patient’s needs and requirements.

Experience

Essential criteria

1. Experience of working as a phlebotomist in paediatric clinic, Outpatient Department, Wards, Antenatal Clinic and Mental Health Hospital
2. Experience of working in a clinical team
3. Experience of working with the public and demonstrating strong customer care skills.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

4. GCSEs in Maths and English language or minimum of Key Skills Level 1 in literacy and numeracy, or equivalent qualifications.
5. U.K. recognised Phlebotomy certificate of competence.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

6. U.K. recognised Phlebotomy certificate of competence
7. Awareness of the physical, psychological, cultural and social needs of patients

Skills

Essential criteria

8. Clear verbal and written communication.
9. Basic IT skills.
10. Can demonstrate an enthusiastic, approachable, empathetic and friendly manner when dealing with patients.
11. Able to organise own workload and use own initiative
12. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.
13. Able to work calmly within a pressured environment.
14. Able to work well within a diverse team.

Desirable criteria

15. Experience of using millennium CRS.
16. Experience of using Swift-Queue online patients booking system

17. Able to participate in internal rotation and all relevant service needs/shifts
18. Prepared to be flexible by working across different hospital sites, trusts and adapting to changes within the service.
19. Knowledge of infection control procedures and protocols and required action to prevent cross infection.
20. Prepared to undertake further training.
21. Able to reflect and appraise own performance
22. Prepared to dress in accordance with the Trust’s uniform policy.
23. Able to work well within a diverse team

25. Able to meet the moving and handling and manual dexterity requirements of the post.
