Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our innovative and experienced community specialist CAMHS team in Berkshire West. This is a replacement post for a 6 PAs community CAMHS consultant psychiatrist vacancy in our West Specialist Community team (Wokingham locality). The role is mainly based at Erlegh House, within the grounds of Reading University, with some travel to other trust sites for meetings and a small element of home working. The Consultant will be based within the West Business Unit, covering Wokingham, Reading and Newbury. The Consultant will primarily provide psychiatric services to children and young people in the Wokingham locality, while collaborating with other Consultants within the West Business Unit to ensure services are provided relative to demand across the unit and to contribute to cross-cover across CAMH services to ensure safe patient care.


Responsibilities

* The Multi-Disciplinary Team provides an outpatient Tier 3 Specialist CAMH service to children and adolescents up to 18 years old for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders.
* Work closely with adult services and support a trust-wide transition policy.
* Orient to a team approach and work with CAMHS teams such as CAMHS Common Point of Entry (CPE), CAMHS Rapid Response (Crisis team), CAMHS Phoenix (Tier 4 alternative to admission adolescent unit), and with parents/carers and other CYPF colleagues including Community Paediatricians, the Children & Young People’s Integrated Therapy Team, Health Visitors, School Nurses, GPs, Children’s Social Care and other local authority services and partners.
* Collaborate with other CYPF colleagues and clinical support staff in the Trust and MDT members.
* Contribute to assessment of children and young people presenting to the team.
* Treat children and young people with mental health disorders in a manner tailored to individual needs within a multidisciplinary setting.
* Manage a caseload that varies with clinical complexity, with regular caseload supervision with the line manager.
* Provide consultation and collaboration with other agencies in the assessment and treatment of complex presentations.
* Attend meetings and provide consultations with team members and external agencies as required.
* Plan and co-ordinate mental health services for children, young people and families, where appropriate.

Requirements / The 4 “must haves”

* To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, be on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, have Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status, and abide by professional codes of conduct.
* Able to provide supportive clinical leadership to the clinical team
* Enthusiastic and self-motivated
* Have a good sense of humour
