To lead a team of machinists to set and operate the full range of machine tools within the machine shop, and to aid with other areas of manufacture as and when required. To support and assist in the completion of all components through flexible working and active participation on all work associated and linked to the cell structures of the machine shop, so they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsibilities
* Lead the machining cell and provide day‑to‑day guidance to the team whilst liaising with production supervisors.
* Be the first point of contact for machine‑shop issues such as quality, productivity and machine availability.
* Drive OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and lead actions against poor‑performing machinery and processes.
* Support the training of new employees on all aspects of the machining process, including safety, so the machine tools can be operated safely and efficiently.
* Maintain technical standards at all times, and demonstrate the capability to produce, edit, prove out and improve CNC programmes without supervisory or Production Engineering support.
* Maintain quality and accuracy of the machined product by carrying out checks and inspections using the full range of available equipment.
* Produce components within the agreed standard time and continually seek improved alternative methods of manufacture.
* Maintain the machine‑tool set‑up by carrying out necessary changes to compensate for tool wear and replacing cutting tools; aid with pre‑setting and tool build‑up procedures as needed.
* Show flexibility within the machine shop and across shift requirements.
* Set and operate the majority of machine tools within a cell and be capable of operating all machines with minimal training.
* Offer ideas and suggestions for continuously improving the process.
* Undertake any other duties within the scope of the role.
* Ensure safe working practices and all H&S policies are adhered to at all times.
Qualifications
* Proven experience working with CNC machine tools and team‑leading or supervisory skills.
* Ability to lead a small team of machine‑shop operators.
* Ability to interpret engineering specifications and drawings.
* Ability to use measuring equipment.
* Ability to produce products to Gardner Denver quality requirements.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace.
* Experience working with lean practices and techniques.
