Overview
Specialist Nurse for Safeguarding Children – Band 7. An exciting opportunity to join the Safeguarding Team in BSW with a base at St Martins Hospital in Bath. This role involves supporting the Named Nurses for Safeguarding Children for BSW Children’s Community Services and providing specialist knowledge and advice to health professionals. Travel across the BSW patch is required; a valid UK driving licence is essential.
This is a highly fulfilling role that promotes effective safeguarding practice by enabling practitioners to identify families who are or may be facing difficulties in meeting their child care responsibilities and ensuring clinical management through high standards of evidence-based practice and safeguarding supervision.

Responsibilities
* To support the promotion of good professional practice.
* To communicate the Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures to all staff, ensuring they are implemented in practice.
* To support HCRG Care Group staff with legal aspects of their roles, including court statements, attending court, police requests, CAFCAS, and liaising with internal and external legal services as required.
* To support operational management with professional advice to ensure delivery of safe and effective safeguarding practice.
* To establish links with those involved in the care of children and families.
* To establish effective communication and collaboration with the local authority, police, education, and other safeguarding agencies.
* To support the development of practice to promote and safeguard the welfare of children across services.
* To contribute to developing an operational framework for Safeguarding Children and Child Protection.
* To provide professional advice on the impact of policy, guidance and legislation to ensure robust evidence bases for services.
* To ensure safeguarding standards are consistently applied across BSW and that children are safeguarded from harm.
* Provide advice and support to frontline clinicians to maintain and improve safeguarding and child protection practice.
* Contribute to internal and multiagency case reviews, ensuring action plans are completed and followed through.

Ideal Candidate
Essential
* Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with Community experience
* Educated to Master’s Degree level or equivalent qualification or experiential learning
* Knowledge of national and local strategies
* Experience of working across organisational boundaries
* Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Ability to build effective working relationships – advisory and facilitative
* Good organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines
* Ability to work under pressure and remain calm
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Significant experience as a Community Health Practitioner working with child protection cases
* Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience with minimum of 3 years at senior level (Band 6 or above) in families in the community
* Safeguarding Children Training Level 3
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience of Clinical Supervision, as a provider or recipient; theoretical understanding of supervision principles
* Experience of managing complex child protection cases
* Experience of attending case conferences and strategy meetings
* Experience of developing relationships with external agencies and organisations
* Experience of working across organisational boundaries within health and with multiagency partners and the voluntary sector
