Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Clinical Coder (ACC qualified) within the Clinical Coding department. The role involves coding a variety of specialties in an acute NHS organisation, ensuring high quality, accurate and timely coded clinical data that meets national coding standards and Trust deadlines.
Detailed Responsibilities
* Provide high quality, timely coded clinical data by following national clinical coding rules and conventions.
* Maintain accuracy and completeness of data to meet departmental and national deadlines.
* Work independently, organising workload and working under pressure to meet strict monthly deadlines.
* Collaborate with Clinical Coding Team Leaders, support trainee coders, and contribute to team success.
* Support the Data & Analytics Team by working with analysts and developers to improve tools and enhance the service.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
* ACC Qualified Clinical Coder.
* Experience working in pressurised situations and meeting team deadlines.
* Expert knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
* Experience coding in an acute hospital across a wide range of specialities.
* Effective written and spoken communication skills.
* Proven ability to meet individual and team deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
* Completed Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course.
* Experience mentoring other Clinical Coders.
* Experience using Medicode.
* Experience serving as a lead coder for a speciality.
