Communications Officer (maternity leave cover – 12 months)
Hours: 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday
Salary: £31,049 - £37,796 per annum
Location: Searle House, Dryden Road, Exeter, EX2 5JJ, with the opportunity for hybrid working
Role Overview

Hospiscare is looking for an experienced and creative Communications Officer to join our team from December 2025/January 2026 to January 2027 on a fixed‑term contract basis for 12 months.
This role will hold our press plan and media relations, hunt out stories to raise our profile and engage stakeholders, and deliver integrated communications campaigns to support the hospice. This is a creative and wide‑range role, working in a small team for a respected local charity.
You’ll work closely with colleagues, fundraisers, our patients and those close to them. In addition to spotting and telling a story, you’ll have strong experience of writing for a range of audiences, brand communications, PR/media relations, and campaign planning.
Responsibilities
* Hold and manage the press plan and media relations strategy.
* Identify and pitch stories to raise hospice profile and engage stakeholders.
* Deliver integrated communications campaigns supporting hospice objectives.
* Work closely with fundraisers and support teams to ensure consistent messaging.
* Write and edit content for a range of audiences and platforms.
Requirements (Qualifications)
* Experience in brand communications, PR/media relations, and campaign planning.
* Strong writing skills for diverse audiences.
* Ability to work at pace and in a small team environment.
* Experience working with or for a charity is desirable.
