Overview
EQUANS is seeking a Mobile Mechanical Engineer for a permanent full‑time role (40 hours per week) on the HMCTS contract at York Magistrates Court. The position includes a call‑out rota and offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
Responsibilities
* Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide variety of mechanical and electrical building services engineering plant, ensuring all activities are completed safely, timely and in line with contracted output specifications and EQUANS processes and procedures.
* Perform legionella control and monitoring activities.
* Carry out routine Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) for all mechanical and electrical plant in accordance with site task schedules and CAFM (e.g., Maximo).
* Respond to reactive tasks throughout the sites and be proactive in highlighting areas for improvement.
* Remediate plant faults and defects promptly to keep plant in serviceable order.
* Ensure suitable spares are available and provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial work.
* Complete and submit all relevant paperwork/CAFM records for PPM, reactive and breakdown works, passing them to the contract administrator without delay.
* Prepare and use method statements and risk assessments for all tasks to ensure safe working practices.
* Develop a good working relationship with all members of EQUANS staff, subcontractors and client representatives.
* Ensure a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing uniform and PPE at all times.
* Present a professional image of EQUANS to clients at all times.
* Maintain up‑to‑date plant logs and keep all plant rooms clean and tidy.
* Supervise and monitor subcontractor works while they are on site.
* Arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover on short notice, and be flexible in working patterns.
* Undertake lone working when required, subject to satisfactory training.
* Ensure tasks are actioned and completed as appropriate.
* Stay aware of and comply with contractual KPIs and SLAs.
* Keep CAFM systems updated and close out PPM and reactive tickets with accurate data.
* Operate a Permit to Work system in accordance with EQUANS technical and SHEQ processes and client requirements.
* Carry out any other task as directed by the account management team.
* Provide engineering support in emergency situations to ensure business and operational continuity.
Client Interaction
* Respond in a timely manner to verbal and written requests.
* Coordinate quotations with the contract manager.
* Produce information required for quotations.
Helpdesk and Planning
* Support the Helpdesk when reporting or updating planned and reactive maintenance.
* Be available for out‑of‑hours call‑out support for the contract.
Compliance
* Obtain required technical appointments (e.g., LVCP/LVAP, Mechanical, Pressure CP).
* Produce condition/dilapidation reports as required.
* Inform the supervisor immediately if dangerous circumstances occur.
SHEQ
* Comply with requests for information from the SHEQ manager.
* Adhere to company health and safety policy.
* Maintain safe use of PPE.
* Report accidents and near misses in a timely manner.
* Ensure test equipment is calibrated.
* Follow method statements and risk assessments for all works.
Impact & Quality
* Carry out mechanical engineering tasks to high standards.
* Assist in maintaining company quality standards, including compliance with specifications and materials/workmanship schedules.
* Maintain and care for all company tools.
* Wear appropriate clothing and uniform.
* Leave work areas clean and tidy at the end of each day.
* Be responsible for the company van in accordance with the vehicle policy.
* Complete site‑based documentation accurately and promptly.
* Perform work directed by the account team to agreed quality standards.
* Keep the site clean and tidy at all times.
* Provide courteous and considerate service to members of the public.
* Respond to any other reasonable management requests.
* Manage planning and reactive tasks and subcontractors according to health and safety legislation.
Complexity & Scope
* Fault finding, minor repairs and installations alongside general maintenance services.
* Ensure specialist subcontractor service visits are completed efficiently, inspected for quality and findings communicated to management.
* Support other engineers and operatives in the region as required and liaise with other staff to carry out duties effectively.
* Participate in wider FM maintenance activities outside the mechanical bias when required.
* Assist in preparing company reports, worksheets and supporting SLAs and procedures.
* Carry out duties within company safety policy and alert line manager to all safety‑related issues.
* Demonstrate excellent communication skills at all levels and work unsupervised when needed; maintain statutory paperwork and documentation.
* Use smart‑phone technology and specialist tools for helpdesk support.
Qualifications or Required Experience
* Approximately 5 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer within an FM environment.
* City and Guilds – Mechanical Engineering Services NVQ Level 2 or higher.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with all levels of staff.
* Proactive in achieving the highest standard of operation.
* Good IT and report‑writing skills.
* Ability to work under pressure while remaining calm and delivering services within time constraints.
* High initiative and drive to continuously improve operations.
* Advanced communication skills and understanding of customer needs and expectations.
* Ability to comprehend and act upon verbal and written instructions.
* Enthusiasm, diligence and alertness, and willingness to participate in internal training programmes.
* Integrity, honesty and punctuality.
* Current and valid Full & Clean UK driving licence.
