Overview

The post-holder will provide medical services managing a caseload and lead with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The Practice is looking for 6 sessions per week.


Main duties

Responsibilities include supporting 3 GP partners in a busy Practice; opportunities to take part or lead in developing appropriate healthcare services for a diverse patient list (practice based commissioning, patient participation and health promotion). (This is a GMS Practice).

Clinical responsibilities:

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, dealing with queries, patient test results, patient medical reports and examinations (e.g. Insurance Companies) on behalf of the Practice, referral letters (NHS/private), paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Record clear and accurate IT-based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Collect data for audit purposes and contribute to the Practice audit program as required.

Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribe in accordance with locally agreed or national guidelines.

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.


About us

We are a busy NHS Training Practice in the centre of Dartford with approximately 7,400 patients. We have 4 General Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses and 1 HCAs, 2 GP Assistants and 10 members of staff within the Management, Secretarial, Reception and Administrative Teams.

Annual leave: 6 weeks annual leave plus public/bank holidays - FTE or pro rata for Part-Time positions.

Study leave: As per BMA Contract - FTE or pro rata for Part-Time positions.

Salary: To be discussed at interview. Includes NHS Pension and MDU/MPS contributions

Quality

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice and will:

Alert other team members to issues of Clinical Governance, quality and risk; participate in Significant Event Analysis reviews.

Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision.

Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance performance.

Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs.

Effectively manage own time, workload and resources. Contribute to the overall team-working of the Practice.

Prescribe safe and effective medicines management which conforms to NICE guidance and DH directives, Good Prescribing Practice as defined by BNF, and related protocols; manage repeat prescriptions safely; adhere to Controlled Drugs legislation and Shared protocols; ensure adherence to locally specified Patient Group Directions.

Work effectively so as not to exceed the Practice prescribing budget set annually by the ICB.

Comply with targets set within the Prescribing Incentive Scheme.

Contribute to the team approach ensuring referrals to other medical service providers with adequate information.

Support the complaints policy and procedure to ensure proper investigation and follow up if a complaint is made.

Other responsibilities

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines (prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety, annual QOF assessment, etc.).

A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing to clinical meetings, case discussions, and organisational development; contributing to evaluation/audit, clinical standard setting, and computer-based patient records development.

Attend training, practice & team meetings and events as necessary.

Meet tight timescales/deadlines for audits and returns to ensure quality standards and funding (e.g. QOF, quarterly enhanced services).
