Overview

The University of Sheffield’s new MPharm degree opened in September 2025 and, as our cohorts grow, we are seeking additional team members to join us as we develop our discipline and our innovative curriculum.

In this role, you will specifically contribute to the development and delivery of our pharmaceutics teaching, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical technology, within the integrated MPharm. You will be a key member of the curriculum design team, working with colleagues from all Pharmacy themes.

You will also develop your administrative experience through taking a key course‑level role such as Director of Admissions, Head of Assessments, etc.

Candidates for this post should have experience of delivering pharmaceutics teaching through lectures, workshops and laboratories in a UK Pharmacy undergraduate setting. Candidates should also show a commitment to developing their national and/or international profile in Pharmacy Education.

Whilst qualification as a UK or International Pharmacist is desirable it is not essential. A commitment to fresh thinking, flexibility and adaptability in approach are more essential to this role.

This post is offered as a 0.8 Full‑Time equivalent role.

Based in the School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery, you will join a vibrant community of teachers and researchers building the discipline of Pharmacy.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Work with the Head of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Leadership team to develop and deliver pharmaceutics teaching within the MPharm programme, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity and alignment with the University’s Teaching and Learning Strategy.
* Improve and enhance the student experience and outcomes through programme delivery based on a detailed understanding of student needs and professional requirements.
* Behave ethically in all aspects of your role and act as a role‑model for MPharm students.
* Undertake scholarship activities in Pharmacy Education, appropriate to the role, that have a positive impact on student outcomes and are influential on a national/international level.
* Engage in recruitment and outreach activities, which may include activities outside standard working hours, e.g. Open Days.
* Undertake relevant enhanced administrative roles such as Director of Admissions, Head of Assessments on a rotational basis.
* Engage in core administrative areas to support the delivery of the MPharm programme, e.g. student advising and mentoring.
* Provide effective line management where required.
* Represent the institution with external stakeholders (within and outside the profession) to foster collaboration at a regional or national level as required.
* Work according to University quality assurance processes and other regulatory frameworks, including Professional Regulatory bodies such as the GPhC.
* Actively contribute to the collective interests and values of the University through individual action and inclusive, collaborative working.
* Make a full and active contribution to the principles of the ‘Sheffield Academic’, including excellence in applied teaching and research, and scholarly pursuits to make a genuine difference in the subject area and to the University’s achievements as a whole.
* Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.


Essential and Desirable Criteria

* Experience of teaching Pharmaceutics in a UK undergraduate Pharmacy degree.
* Teaching qualification e.g. FHEA, PGCert Higher Education or evidence of working towards.
* Experience of working and communicating with a team of staff.
* Experience of developing strong working relationships with partners within and external to Higher Education.
* Ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving.
* Experience of working independently on project activities.
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and effective IT skills.
* Experience of significant contribution to the design (or re‑design), development and coordination of a pharmacy programme of study.
* Qualification as a UK or International Pharmacist.
* Evidence of a national and/or international profile in Pharmacy education research.
