Overview
We are seeking a Senior or Intermediate Public Health Building Services Engineer to join Arup’s Public Health Engineering team. You will contribute to multidisciplinary projects from feasibility through to completion, providing technical leadership and working with specialists in building physics, sustainability, energy, carbon, and BIM. The role supports the design of water supply and sanitation systems and related public health services across sectors including commercial, property, science, education, healthcare and industry. Experience in the science sector is particularly valued.
What you’ll do
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior colleagues to cultivate a knowledgeable and collaborative team.
* Lead MEP design on a diverse portfolio of projects at local, national and international levels, ensuring technical excellence across all phases.
* Manage projects from feasibility to delivery, including responsibility for financial performance and direct client engagement on fees and commercial matters.
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (building physics, sustainability, energy, carbon, BIM, civil, structural, fire, acoustics, lighting, etc.).
* Support the delivery of projects that align with Arup’s net zero carbon commitments and sustainable design goals.
* Oversee the successful delivery of complex projects through effective leadership, delegation and team coordination, reporting to the Project Director.
* Contribute to Arup’s digital transformation by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and enhanced integrated digital design capabilities.
Qualifications and skills
* Holds a degree in engineering, building services, or a related field, and is either Chartered or actively working towards chartered status with a recognized institution such as IMechE or CIBSE.
* Proven experience in public health building services design, including domestic water systems, gas systems, and drainage (foul, trade, rainwater); knowledge of medical gas, fire suppression, and below-ground drainage design is preferred.
* Ability to secure and deliver diverse projects, lead multi-disciplinary teams, and manage external sub-consultants effectively.
* Strong understanding of relevant legislation, design standards, and emerging trends with a commitment to sustainable design and alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
* Proficiency with BIM tools (Revit, AutoCAD) and a proactive approach to digital innovation in design and delivery processes.
