Overview:
We are seeking a Paralegal to join Baker McKenzie's highly-regarded Intellectual Property team in Belfast. The role involves supporting the firm's IP practice, managing high volumes of IP prosecution, maintenance, and transactional work in a deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will work on global IP portfolios, requiring a global mindset and effective coordination with international teams and clients.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Handle technical trade mark formalities, including registration, prosecution, maintenance, renewal, and post-registration steps.
2. Prepare client reporting emails independently.
3. Support global IP M&A activities, including recordal of assignments, licenses, security interests, and changes at local registries.
4. Draft legal documents, liaise with local counsel, produce schedules, and communicate with stakeholders.
5. Conduct comprehensive IP asset due diligence using official registries and databases.
6. Support anti-counterfeiting programs, including drafting product guides, seizure notifications, and liaising with infringers.
7. Perform trade mark scan searches and draft search reports.
8. Develop expertise to support lawyers and clients effectively.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Relevant undergraduate degree, 2.1 or above preferred.
* Legal background with trade mark/IP experience is preferred.
* Passion for Intellectual Property with a desire to develop specialized knowledge.
* Authorization to work in the UK.
* Desirable: CITMA qualification.
* High attention to detail, strong organizational and prioritization skills.
* Proactive attitude and initiative.
* Ability to work independently and manage deadlines.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Team player adaptable to different work styles and client needs.
