What will the role involve?
* Work closely with editorial leads and the Chief Sub‑Editor to ensure high‑standard copy for the Mirror and, as needed, the Express.
* Sub‑edit high‑profile Mirror page leads and shared content across both brands.
* Edit copy for print editions, ensuring it is polished, precise, impactful, fits allocated space, and is clear and plain English.
* Craft accurate and effective headlines that capture readers' attention.
* Fact‑check rigorously and adapt swiftly to breaking news, updating stories accurately as events unfold.
* Ensure every piece of copy strictly follows house style, internal guidelines, legal soundness and IPSO compliance.
* Balance speed with meticulous detail to maintain professional, ethical, high‑quality output.
* Work nine shifts a fortnight on a rolling rota, including regular weekend work (flexible schedule required).
Who are we looking for?
* Seasoned sub‑editor with experience in a national newsroom environment.
* Sharp editorial judgement and creative flair – able to decide instantly whether copy may remain unchanged or requires a high‑speed overhaul.
* Uncompromising eye for detail, strong understanding of media law.
* Proven track record of meeting strict, demanding deadlines.
