Hours: 35 per week

We are currently seeking to recruit a dynamic, committed, and passionate Principal Teacher to join our We Matter Team to support Care Experienced Children and Young People across the City of Edinburgh.

The post will involve working in range of Educational Establishments alongside a range of partner agencies including social work, youth justice and third sector partners.

Job Outline

The We Matter Principal Teacher will be responsible for driving improvement in attainment, attendance, reducing exclusion, health and wellbeing and positive transitions for Care Experienced Children and Young People in The City of Edinburgh Council. This post will focus on supporting educational establishments, learning communities and targeted and intensive outreach interventions and supports. The post holder will be based at Westfield Secondary School with responsibility for managing Inclusion Teachers and Pupil Support Officers in the We Matter Team. They will support the citywide delivery of effective career long professional learning and be responsible for supporting education at the Corporate Parenting Hub.

The post holder will be responsible for undertaking support and challenge roles within the Service and, as appropriate with educational establishments and other service partners. These responsibilities may change over time to meet the developing needs of the service. The post holder will be expected to be forward thinking and the innovative in terms of delivering the most appropriate service to the range of needs of care experienced learners across a range of settings as appropriate in meeting the needs of the learners and achieving best value outcomes. This will include working in partnership with social workers, advocacy workers and The Champion Board to ensure that the voices of the care experienced community are listened to and involved in the delivery of the Edinburgh Promise.

There will be a need to remain aware of current theories and practice relating to Care Experience and Trauma Informed Practice as well as effective teaching in and beyond the classroom. They will also need to remain aware of developments in children's services to ensure appropriate implementation occurs as their focus on their service, Council and National priorities (with a particular focus on delivery of The Promise in the City of Edinburgh).

The Principal Teacher will undertake the duties outlined for all teachers as set our in Annex B of 'A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century'.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
