Minor Operations & ENT Support Assistant

We're currently seeking a skilled and motivatednursing support professional to assist in our Dermatology, ENT, and Vasectomyclinics.

This role offers theopportunity to work across both NHS and private settings, supporting ourclinical teams in delivering high-quality care.

The role is offered on a Flexible WorkerContract, ideal for experienced HCAs or Registered Nurses looking tocomplement existing commitments. Hoursare offered on an ad hoc basis, depending on service demand. Salary is competitive and based on experienceand qualifications.


Main duties of the job

KeyResponsibilities

* Chaperone and assist during examinations andminor procedures
* Support ENT GPs with Extended Roles (GPwERs)in outpatient clinics, ensuring equipment is sterilised and infection controlprotocols are followed
* Monitor and assist in managing clinic stocklevels
* Maintain cleanliness and readiness ofconsulting and treatment rooms
* Report faults or non-compliance promptly
* Uphold high standards of patient care in linewith operational policies and national guidelines
* Enhance service user satisfaction throughexcellent customer service
* Advocate for patient wellbeing and continuouslyseek ways to improve care delivery

Job responsibilities

* Provision of support andassistance with Dermatology and Vasectomy minor surgery procedures and ENTclinics.
* Provision of general nursingduties e.g. supporting clinician with dressings, equipment availability, roomset up/clean down.
* The maintenance ofinformation to patients.
* Monitoring of medical supplies stock, includingstock rotation at the different clinical sites.Inform the Stock Nurse of stock requirements, out of date stock andother stock related matters.
* Engage, interact withcarers/family encouraging them to be actively involved in patients care.
* Assist clinical staff toarrange appropriate prompt follow up as necessary e.g. in the event ofinfection or other post-operative complications.
* Record high quality notes of patient assessment datainto the electronic patient record system in a timely manner.
* Liaisewith the Sentinel Administration Team to arrange appropriate follow upappointments /actions /discharge
* Monitoring of and reportingof medical equipment issues / faults identified at clinics.
* Liaise with maintenance services for servicingand repair of equipment and arrange replacement equipment where required. Inform the Operations Manager of allequipment issues.
* Undertake the cleaning andsterilisation of specialist ENT equipment (nasendoscope) during ENT outpatient clinics,in line with national decontamination processes.
* Prepare clinical rooms with functioningequipment and stock to ensure the smooth running of clinics.
* Ensurethat clinical rooms are clean and meet required cleanliness standards prior toclinics and clean down appropriately following clinics. Restock and prepare rooms for followingclinics.
* Ensurethat local and national infection control procedures are followed. Report issues to the Infection Control LeadNurse and Senior Management Team.
* To attend and contribute at Corporate, ClinicalGovernance and other meetings as required.
* Work safely at all times inaccordance with Legislative requirements and Sentinel Policy and Procedures.Maintaining and keeping up to date with local and national guidance within yourclinical role.
* Attend relevant professional orother training courses as required.
* Completemandatory e-learning and face to face training as required within the specifiedtimescales.
* Maintainprofessional registration/s as required.
* Report untowardincidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies, and injury or drugadministration errors as detailed in and local protocols and procedures.
* Contribute towardsorganisational projects to set and maintain standards of practice inconjunction with other team members, participating in audits and qualitymonitoring.
* Ensure that resourcesare used efficiently and in accordance with agreed procedures
* Demonstrate an awareness of and compliance withhealth and safety regulations/procedures that apply to staff, patients andvisitors, including reporting any deficiencies in equipment, furnishings ormatters of hygiene.
* Ensure up to date knowledge and competence inuse of clinical equipment regularly used and maintain a personal record oftraining.
* Ensuregood communication both verbally and via formal documentation with all membersof the management, admin, nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
* Acceptresponsibility; be aware and able to locate all policies relating to goodworking practice within the clinical area and able to adhere to both by selfand colleagues, and to challenge where necessary.


Person Specification


Experience

* Possess clinical skills relevant to area of practice.
* Have experience of providing nursing support in minor surgery and outpatient clinics.
* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
* Knowledge of Information Governance and Caldicott Principles
* Understanding of Clinical Governance
* Experience of using computerised patient record systems - EMIS and S1.
* IT competent, with experience of using MS packages
* Familiar with using digital video platforms, such as Teams, Zoom.
* Have experience of disinfecting ENT equipment
* Demonstrable evidence of recent CPD
* Experience in audits and research


Qualifications

* Good standard of education including English and Maths GCSE grade 4 and above.
* NMC Registered Nurse or Health Care Assistant with relevant experience.
* Diploma qualification in a healthcare related subject or equivalent experience.
* Relevant post registration clinical course or equivalent experience
* Relevant Degree or equivalent.

* Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels, face to face and digitally.
* Good time management and ability to work to deadlines and plan and prioritise effectively.
* Good organisational skills.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense.
* Ability to communicate clinical information to patients, their families and carers.
* Adaptable and flexible to the needs of the business.
* Trustworthy and approachable.
* Work within the professional code of conduct.
