Are you passionate about providing excellent care to women with complex pregnancies and co-morbities who require care on the Consultant led Delivery Suite. If so, we would love you to join our motivated and forward thinking core team.

We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic midwives to join our highly motivated midwifery team, as part of our Band 6 core team providing complex care to antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal women requiring a higher level of surveillance and care within the Delivery Suite setting. The role will involve all aspects of intrapartum care, high dependency care of complex women, support of the Delivery Suite Coordinator and oversight of activity within the Delivery Suite and wider unit. This is an excellent opportunity for midwives wanting to further their knowledge and experience with a view to future career progression.

The role will involve the support of the Delivery Suite coordinator in the oversight and management of the Delivery Suite and the support and guidance of junior midwives and learners in this complex area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties to include, but not be limited to:

1. Assist and support the Delivery Suite Coordinator midwife in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
2. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
3. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by less experienced staff ‍️
4. Ensure a high standard of Midwifery care is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet women's needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines
5. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
6. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines ️
7. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care ️
8. Promote provision of education and health promotion
9. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
10. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

11. Experince in IV additives, venepuncture and Cannulation, Perineal suturing
12. Awareness of changes within Midwifery practice
13. Able to manage /treat obstetric emergencies in hospital/birth unit and community setting
14. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
15. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
16. Maintains own reflective practice.
17. Demonstrates effective listening skills and communication skills.
18. Confident in teaching and assessing student midwives, midwives and doctors.
19. Ability to implement changes within midwifery practice.
20. Experience in intrapartum care in the Delivery Suite setting

Desirable criteria

21. Evidence clinical competence in area of speciality
22. Knowledge of Leadership and management
23. Research and Development knowledge/experience
24. Experience of high dependency care
25. Evidence clinical competence in area of speciality
26. Experience of high dependency care

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

27. Appropriate NMC Registration
28. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards, following 18 months commencement in post
29. Evidence of continuing education or development
