I'm looking for a single designer to create a cohesive visual identity for a Catholic writing/speaking project called Loam & Light (imprint name: Loam & Light Project) and to design the cover for my first devotional book, Encounter Without Intimidation.
This is not a "flashy" brand. The look should be minimal, masculine, warm, and timeless—grounded like soil and bright like morning light. Tone is calm and pastoral (not preachy, guilt-driven, or culture-war). Think stability and steadiness, not hype.
The logo must work well in one color and scale cleanly (favicon/social icon, stamp/emboss on a cover, and simple print use).
CORE BRAND ELEMENTS:
- Brand name: Loam & Light (imprint: Loam & Light Project)
- Tagline: Anchored in Christ — Soil to Soul
- Descriptor line (for site/footer): Catholic books, talks, and retreats for steady discipleship.
STYLE DIRECTION:
- Minimal line art or simple solid mark; strong at small sizes
- Earth + light palette (soil/charcoal/wheat; muted gold accent optional)
- Typography-forward, "publisher-quality" feel
- Avoid: ornate clip-art religious imagery, gradients, trendy effects.
LOGO CONCEPT:
I'm open to your concepts. Please propose 3 distinct directions that reflect the brand name and tagline without being cliché. The mark should feel grounded, steady, and modern-classic.
SCOPE & DELIVERABLES:
1) LOGO SUITE
- Primary logo: mark + wordmark "Loam & Light"
- Secondary lockup including "Loam & Light Project" (imprint use)
- One-color + reverse versions (black/white)
- Icon version suitable for favicon/social profile
Deliverables:
- SVG, PDF, PNG (transparent background), plus source files (AI or equivalent editable vector)
2) MINI BRAND GUIDE ("STYLE BOOK") — short PDF
Include:
- Logo usage rules (clear space, minimum sizes, do/don't)
- Color palette with HEX codes
- Font pairing recommendations (serif for headings + clean sans for body preferred)
- Basic layout guidance for web/print (simple and readable)
Optional:
- Simple icon/illustration style guidance for future use
3) BUSINESS CARD
- Double-sided business card design aligned with the brand
- Print-ready PDF + source file
- Include: Name, title, email, website, optional QR code
4) BOOK COVER DESIGN (DEVOTIONAL)
Book: Encounter Without Intimidation
Direction:
- Calm, grounded, typography-forward cover
- Minimal imagery; subtle texture (soil/parchment) is fine
- Must be legible at thumbnail size
Deliverables:
- Ebook front cover (JPG/PNG)
- Print cover wrap (front/spine/back) if final trim size + page count are available
- If not, start with front cover now and we will finalize the full wrap later.
- Print-ready PDF with bleed + crop marks
- Source file (InDesign preferred; Illustrator acceptable)
PROCESS EXPECTATIONS:
- First round: 3 distinct logo concept directions (not minor variations)
- Select 1 direction → refine with multiple revision rounds
- Apply finalized identity to business card and book cover
- Clear communication and willingness to iterate is important
TO APPLY, PLEASE INCLUDE:
1) Portfolio links showing minimal marks and/or typography-forward book covers
2) Confirmation you can deliver SVG + print-ready PDFs + source files
3) Fixed price quote for the full package and estimated timeline - budget is approx $200-$300.
4) Any questions you need answered up front (trim size, author name format, etc.)
NOTES:
- This is explicitly Catholic, but I am a layperson (not clergy).
- The final identity will be used across website, book covers, print, email header, and occasional social graphics.
