We are currently recruiting for an experienced Critical ElectricalShift Engineer to join a leading facilities management provider supporting a mission‑critical data centre in Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high‑availability critical environment where reliability, resilience, and uptime are the priority. You’ll be joining a company that invests in its engineers through structured training, clear progression routes, and a management team focused on long‑term development within the data centre sector.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical maintenance across critical infrastructure.
* Respond swiftly to electrical faults, alarms, and plant failures to maintain 24/7 uptime.
* Operate and maintain critical electrical systems including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, and HV/LV distribution systems.
* Perform electrical fault‑finding on power distribution systems within live environments.
* Conduct switching operations (LV and HV where authorised).
* Monitor and operate Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
* Carry out regular plant inspections, load checks, battery testing, and thermal imaging where required.
* Ensure all works are completed in line with permit‑to‑work systems, RAMS, and site compliance procedures.
* Support planned shutdowns, client change requests, and infrastructure upgrades.
Requirements
* City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Installation or Engineering.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (essential).
* HV/LV Authorised Person or experience working within HV environments (desirable).
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a critical environment (data centres, hospitals, banking, or similar high‑availability sites preferred).
* Strong electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic capability.
* Experience working on UPS systems, generators, and critical power infrastructure.
* Calm, methodical approach with the ability to perform under pressure.
