My client, Ireland’s leading food retail, wholesale, and foodservice business, is seeking a compliance-driven Buyer to join their highly reputable organisation. This pivotal role combines commercial responsibility for buying and category management with accountability for ensuring full compliance with evolving regulatory requirements across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Responsibilities of this Buyer role include:
* Take overall ownership of compliance within your categories, ensuring all products, suppliers, and processes adhere to current and emerging legislation.
* Monitor, interpret, and embed new regulations, with a particular emphasis on the Windsor Framework, deposit return schemes, alcohol and excise duties, and sustainability reporting.
* Develop and update policies and processes to create robust compliance frameworks across buying activities.
* Partner with suppliers, legal, finance, and operations teams to guarantee transparency and regulatory alignment in all agreements.
* Provide compliance-focused input into commercial decision-making, ensuring profitability is achieved without risk of breach.
* Oversee audits, records management, and due diligence, maintaining readiness for inspections by regulators.
* Represent the business with regulatory bodies, trade associations, and industry groups.
* Lead training and communication initiatives to ensure colleagues fully understand compliance obligations within buying.
* Assess commercial performance of product ranges, conduct competitor analysis, and identify opportunities to enhance profitability within a compliant framework.
* Leverage group buying power while ensuring inbound service levels and supplier practices align with legislative requirements.
* Drive accountability and continuous improvement within the team, embedding compliance as a core part of the buying function.
Experience required for this Buyer role includes:
* Proven track record in compliance management within retail, wholesale, alcohol, or FMCG environments.
* In-depth knowledge of the Windsor Framework, excise duty regimes (duty paid/deferred), and wider regulatory frameworks affecting retail and wholesale.
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance profitability and compliance.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a buying or trading role with exposure to compliance obligations.
* Excellent analytical, planning, and organisational skills.
* Skilled in policy drafting, report writing, and communicating with regulators.
* Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage at senior level.
* Detail-focused, logical, and proactive, with a passion for raising standards and ensuring compliance excellence.
* Experience in data analysis and interpretation.
* Team player with strong communication and leadership skills.
