English Teacher
Location: Upminster / Havering area, East London
Start: April 2026 or September 2026
Contract: Permanent, full time
Salary: £37,870 to £56,154 per year (Outer London Teachers’ Pay Scale)
Ethos Education is recruiting an English Teacher for a permanent role in a secondary school in the Havering area. This is a full time position starting in April or September 2026, suitable for an experienced English Teacher or an Early Career Teacher.
The role
You will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 depending on experience. The English department is well organised, with shared planning and clear expectations that allow teachers to focus on delivering strong lessons.
Key responsibilities include:
• Teaching English across KS3 and KS4
• Delivering lessons in English language and literature
• Preparing pupils for GCSE English
• Supporting progress in reading, writing and analysis
• Contributing to a collaborative English department
The candidate
This role would suit someone who:
• Holds Qualified Teacher Status
• Has a degree in English or a related subject
• Has strong subject knowledge
• Is confident teaching KS3 and KS4
• Values structure, clarity and consistency in the classroom
