Job Summary
Due to considerable investment and internal promotion, we are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, patient-focused, and independently motivated pharmacist to join our Cardiology Team.
Requirements: An experienced pharmacist with a clinical diploma and non-medical prescriber qualification on appointment. Existing Band 7 staff will be considered with a view to completing these qualifications within a set timeframe to develop into a Band 8a.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Cardiology team, utilizing their specialist pharmacy knowledge to provide clinical input, including prescribing and medicines optimisation, homecare, and adherence to commissioning requirements (such as BlueTeq).
This role offers leadership and expertise to other pharmacists and technicians within the trust, supporting the Principal Pharmacist, Medicine. Responsibilities include managing the delivery of safe, effective, efficient, and sustainable pharmacy and medicines management services to a defined group of patients and service users.
The candidate will build on established good working relationships between pharmacy and the wider Cardiology team, influence local practice for safe medication use, and promote good prescribing practice, patient safety, and risk minimisation.
Main duties include:
* Supervising, supporting, and developing pharmacy staff, including junior pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists, and other Trust personnel.
* Working autonomously, motivating others, and providing cross-cover within the Specialist team.
* Developing and implementing PGDs, policies, and SOPs across the division.
* Overseeing clinical pharmacy services for inpatients in collaboration with the Principal Pharmacist.
* Providing person-centred, evidence-based medication reviews for cardio/respiratory patients.
* Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including attendance at MDT meetings.
* Participating in departmental and clinical audits.
* Providing expert advice on medicines and prescribing, promoting safe and effective medicine use, minimizing waste, and reducing medicines-related incidents.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver highly specialist clinical pharmacist services, including horizon scanning, cost-benefit analysis, ensuring PGDs/Shared Care Protocols are appropriate, and providing assurance reporting.
Work as a non-medical prescriber, reduce medicines-related adverse events, review medication practices, investigate serious errors, develop policies, and ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and legislation.

* Provide clinical pharmacy services, supervise dispensary operations, prioritize patient needs, and ensure medication safety and compliance.
* Participate in clinical trials, audit, and maintain departmental standards.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and healthcare teams, and develop working relationships.
* Assist in financial management, handle prescriptions and controlled drugs, and supervise staff.
* Ensure health and safety compliance, manage risks, and deliver training to staff.
