This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team of cardiac rhythm cardiologists in the highly rewarding specialty of electrophysiology. As one of the first in the UK to become an established electrophysiology centre, Southampton continues to excel in service and research in all aspects of cardiac rhythm management with an international reputation.
This is a replacement post and is intended to further the unit’s expansion in service to the region with an emphasis on catheter ablation of complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. The candidate will also play a major role in advance device implant and management, including system extraction. There is potential for the candidate to develop cardiac electrophysiology research in this centre.
The successful applicant should possess Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that candidates provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty and attach the confirmation to the application.

Job responsibilities
Cathlab work encompasses electrophysiological studies and catheter ablation of simple and complex arrhythmias, implantation and revision of low and high voltage devices including cardiac resynchronization therapy. There are opportunities to perform additional cathlab procedures at Hampshire Hospitals EP lab (HHT) to support joint expansion in both Trusts. The consultant provides a supervisory role for troubleshooting in device follow up clinics. They will perform weekly outpatient clinics and share the non‑invasive CCU (1:18) and out‑of‑hours weekend on‑call rota (1:12, subject to change). New consultant appointments in the Trust are currently paid 10 PAs.
