Head of Workshop & Logistics – Scenic Construction & Creative Build
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000
Location: South East London
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Their work blends exceptional craftsmanship, technical innovation and large-scale creative engineering — and they’re now seeking a Head of Workshop & Logistics to lead the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced workshop environment.
The Role
As Head of Workshop & Logistics, you will oversee the operational output of the workshop, ensuring people, space, machinery, materials, logistics and safety all run smoothly. Acting as the central point of coordination, you’ll work across multiple departments to align schedules, maintain workflow, plan resources and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to an exceptional standard.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate with Carpentry, Scenic, Metalwork and Project Management teams to align timelines, workspace allocation and production priorities.
Provide strategic planning for workshop operations, including resourcing, scheduling and labour requirements.
Manage the workshop calendar, material flow, vehicle logistics and long-term storage needs.
Lead, support and develop the Workshop Lead, Facilities & Safety Coordinator, CNC Operator and Van Driver.
Oversee safe loading/unloading of vehicles, ensuring accuracy, accountability and proper handling of all items.
Maintain high standards of workmanship through final quality checks and pre-fit sign-offs.
Plan and supervise pre-fits and build layouts alongside the Workshop Lead.
Recruit and onboard freelance and permanent workshop staff with HR support.
Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and escalate risks or capacity issues to the Production Director.
Manage stock of hire items (steel deck, truss, etc.) and maintain consumable and bulk material levels.
Uphold all workshop Health & Safety policies, ensuring all areas are clean, safe and compliant.
Manage internal van movements and yard space for efficient loading/unloading.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience managing workshop operations in a scenic construction, fabrication, theatre, events, joinery or production build environment.
Strong organisational, scheduling and resource-planning capability.
Demonstrable leadership experience with the ability to motivate and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of construction methods, workshop machinery and safe manual handling.
Confident decision-maker with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines.
Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements and compliance.
Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to adapt to changing demands
