Responsibilities

* Deliver high‑quality compassionate care safely within a challenging and changing environment, using equipment and resources as appropriate.
* Demonstrate proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with GHNHSFT and NHS values.
* Work as part of the endoscopy team, focusing on the direct needs of the individual.
* Carry out specific delegated tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency.
* Assist in meeting service delivery targets.
* Act as a team player within the unit, contributing to the smooth running of the clinical area.
* Work within unit hours, including weekends when rostered.
* Ensure correct storage of endoscopes in designated drying cabinets, prepare equipment for transfer to other departments, and track and trace endoscopic equipment to ensure safety checks at every stage.
* Under supervision, manually clean and reprocess endoscopes in line with Trust guidelines, SOPs, health & safety, COSHH, and HTMO1 standards.
* Welcome patients upon arrival and assist with admission to the unit.
* Provide care for patients during endoscopic procedures and while recovering from them.
* Work in the decontamination area, cleaning and caring for endoscopes.
* Transport patients to wards or other areas within the hospital.
* Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
* Communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised.
* Maintain discretion, understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
* Perform and record clinical observations (blood pressure, temperature, respiration, pulse) competently.
* Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals at all times.
* Recognise safeguarding issues relating to vulnerable children and adults and raise concerns to the appropriate Registered Care professionals.
* Recognise changing priorities, seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate.
* Communicate across a wide range of channels and with a wide range of individuals, the public, and health and social care professionals, focusing on improving health and care services.
* Demonstrate interpersonal skills that promote clarity, compassion, empathy, respect, and trust.
* Contribute to team success and challenge others constructively.
* Treat all patient‑related information sensitively and adhere to confidentiality principles at all times.
* Report accidents or incidents and raise concerns as per organisational policy.
* Ensure clear, concise, accurate and legible records; maintain all communication in relation to care delivered in accordance with local and national guidance.
* Manage electronic record systems, protecting access to Electronic Patient Records, ID, passwords and swipe cards.
* Report information received from patients, carers and team members to the appropriate registered care professional.
* Communicate with individuals, carers and visitors courteously, mindful of potential barriers to understanding.
* Promote health and safety, maintaining best practice in health, safety and security.
* Share ideas with colleagues to improve care and suggest areas for innovation.
* Participate in audit activities within the area of practice.
* Use concentration, managing unpredictable work patterns with regular interruptions requiring immediate response.
* Maintain a professional approach while dealing with challenging, distressing situations or behavior.
* Support individuals, their families and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life‑changing diagnoses.
* Be exposed to VDU screens; manage exposure to unpleasant bodily fluids and distressing or emotional circumstances.
* Use moderate effort for manual handling of individuals and equipment, in line with organisational guidelines.
* Apply manual dexterity for manipulation of clinical instruments and equipment.
* Employ a combination of standing, walking, bending and stretching throughout the shift.
* Work within recognised Manual Handling Guidelines and may be required to work in confined spaces.
* Receive full training for decontamination procedures.


Qualifications

* Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy.
* Appropriate verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of basic nursing and personal care.
* Ability to work effectively as a team member and as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Ability to communicate with members of the public and health care providers.
* Ability to manage the non‑routine, unpredictable nature of workload and individual patient contact, being flexible and responsive to the working environment.
* Understanding of the importance of health and wellbeing promotion (Making Every Contact Count).
* Practical skills in prioritisation and time management.
* Demonstrated potential for further development.
