About this role
The board of BSAG has three committees, including ORENO (Organisation, Remuneration and Nomination) which oversees the company’s executive team, HR metrics, salary benchmarking, board and advisory board chair appointments. Responsibilities of the Chair of ORENO include:
* Liaising with group board and committees
* Planning and chairing ORENO meetings (three per year)
* Updating on ORENO’s work and recommendations to group board meetings (three per year)
* Working with the CEO of BSAG and their team
* Working with ORENO to approve executive roles, appointments, salaries, targets and metrics.
* Ad hoc discussions, guidance and decisions as required.
Experience and skills
BSAG Group Board members are appointed based on experience and skills. The Chair of ORENO will be able to:
* Demonstrate success in senior executive roles
* Show service as a company director, trustee or board/committee chair
* Have experience of HR or managing people
* Understand good governance.
It would be beneficial for the Chair to have:
* Knowledge or experience in education, health education, inclusion or safeguarding.

History
1965 - BSAG began life in 1965 as the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), a membership organisation for UK state and independent boarding schools. Over 60 years, BSA has grown to have more than 600 boarding school members in 40 countries.
2016 - After becoming the leading provider of training services for boarding staff, BSA launched the Accredited Boarding Practitioner (ABP) scheme, which today has more than 3,000 members.
2020 - BSA became part of BSA Group (BSAG) when the SACPA (Safeguarding and Child Protection Association) was launched. Later the same year, BAISIS (British Association of Independent Schools with International Students) to join BSAG, and BSA launched its Certified Guardian and Certified Agents schemes. Today SACPA has more than 400 members worldwide, BAISIS membership has doubled to around 120, there are more than 150 BSA Certified Guardians and Certified Agents.
2021 – Now a remote organisation, BSAG launched HIEDA (Health in Education Association) and in 2022 TIOB (The Institute of Boarding), which today have around 200 members each. TIOB was the first professional body for staff working in boarding.
2023 - BSA Legal Ltd, a subsidiary company regulated to provide visa and immigration advice to schools and individuals was launched.
2024 - Launch of IELA (Inclusion and Equity Leadership Association).

Time commitment/remuneration
The Chair of ORENO typically attends three ORENO meetings a year (one in person) and three Group Board meetings (one in person), which are renumerated £750 per day plus reasonable expenses. Any additional in-person meetings will be similarly remunerated.

The British Association of Independent Schools with International Students (BAISIS) has 124 members and defines and shares best practice in academic and pastoral provision for international students in independent schools globally. Founded in 1997, the association offers a supportive network, termly meetings, CPD sessions and one- and two-day certificated courses for teachers of international students and other staff involved in their care.

BSA Group Legal is a SRA registered law firm offering immigration legal support to BSA member schools and their students. BSA Group Legal offers a full-spectrum immigration support service including: CAS support; policy, record-keeping and reporting support; BCA and CAS allocation guidance; mock UKVI audits; agent/guardian checks; due diligence checks to assess financial and pupil eligibility; bespoke immigration training and advice; individual student and family visa application support; Home Office escalation support including replacement BRPs, delayed application decisions, ISI compliance issues, CAS reinstatement and visa refusals.

HIEDA: Health in Education Association
The Heath in Education Association (HIEDA) launched in July 2021 and has 200 members with a mission is to champion health in education excellence. Hieda provides training and education on a wide variety of medical issues, delivered by healthcare professionals who are experts in their field.

IELA: The Inclusion and Equity Leadership Association
The Inclusion and Equity Leadership Association (IELA) was launched in September 2024 as a professional association for schools, organisations and staff committed to inclusion and equity. IELA supports excellence in equity and inclusion work by actively advocating for change through training, resources, networking and consultancy.

SACPA: Safeguarding and Child Protection Association
The Safeguarding and Child Protection Association (SACPA) champions excellence in safeguarding and child protection and has 480 members in 29 countries. Sacpa is the voice of safeguarding, providing a channel to government and other key agencies. The association represents organisations, associations, agencies and individuals involved in safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults in the UK and overseas. The association formally launched in January 2020.

The Institute of Boarding (TIOB) was launched in June 2022 as the world’s first professional association for boarding school staff. TIOB currently has 200 members, and its mission is to ‘support excellence for professional boarding staff’.
