Medical Engineering Apprentice (Grade C)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to start a career in Medical Engineering, working for AGH Solutions who are a wholly owned subsidiary of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be enrolled onto a 2-year programme to complete a Level 4 Healthcare Science Diploma. Apprentices will develop personal and professional skills and Management of Medical Devices through on the job training whilst shadowing experienced members of the team.

Applicants must hold a minimum of 5 GCSE's including English Language, Mathematics and a Science, Grade C/4 and above (or equivalent). Level 3 qualification in a relevant Engineering subject (i.e. BTEC Level 3 Diploma) or A Levels in Mathematics and a Science subject is desirable.

A valid driving licence will be beneficial for this post but not essential.

£31,950 per annum

See below break down of salaries over the years.

Year 1 £31950 x (70/100) = £22365, hourly rate of £11.43

Year 2 £31950 x (75/100) = £23962.5, hourly rate of £12.25

Substantive employment is dependant on successful completion of the Apprenticeship


Main duties of the job

To observe, learn and assist, under supervision, in the full range of work in the Medical Engineering Department. This work will include commissioning, repair, planned maintenance, decommissioning and inventory management of electronic, mechanical and medical gas equipment.

You will primarily work at the Airedale General Hospital site but maybe required to work at other sites such as Skipton General Hospital, Ilkley Coronation and Castleberg Hospital.

Alongside your practical duties you will undertake a work based Level 4 Qualification in the Healthcare Science Apprenticeship training programme. You will attend on-line learning sessions for one day a week with our training partner Avensys Medical and Dudley college. You will be expected to travel to the training centre for a few days per year.

Because of how the apprenticeship levy is accessed for training apprentices, applicants who already hold a degree will not be considered.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A-C) including English, Maths and a Science or equivalent qualifications.
* Level 3 qualification in a relevant Engineering subject, (i.e. BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma) or A Levels in Maths and a Science subject.
* Must be able to use excel, word etc. to set up documents and spreadsheets and extract information.
* Literacy and Numeracy
* Verbal and non-verbal communication
* Must demonstrate a willingness to develop new skills and acquire additional qualifications.
* Must have a high level of manual dexterity.
* Must be able to keep accurate written and computer records.


Knowledge

* Quality Management Systems
* Information Governance
* Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure
* Knowledge of equipment databases.
* Working knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines.


Experience

* Basic engineering skills and good standards of workmanship
* Use of tools and test equipment

* Must be able to work in a team
* Have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate to all disciplines.
* Ability to work under pressure
* Good timekeeping and punctuality.
* Be able to prioritise and manage own workload.
* Have a positive attitude to change.
